Julie Kennedy was first elected to office on November 6, 2018, and was and re-elected on November 8, 2022, by the city at large to serve on the Melbourne City Council as the representative of District 6 (view a map of Council Districts). She served as Vice Mayor from November 2021 until November 2022. Her second four-year term will end in November 2026.
Mrs. Kennedy grew up in New York, where she graduated high school. She attended the College of Saint Elizabeth in New Jersey, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and elementary education. Upon graduation Mrs. Kennedy relocated to Melbourne to be closer to her family. Mrs. Kennedy began her career in education in 1992 and has worked for Brevard Public Schools since 1996. Furthering her education while working, Mrs. Kennedy received a master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University in educational leadership.
She is currently working at Brevard Adult and Community Education as a building administrator. Her students are given the opportunity to obtain their high school diploma through her program. Mrs. Kennedy takes an active role in providing many workforce training opportunities. Council Member Kennedy is the current president of the Space Coast League of Cities. She serves as a regular member of the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization. She has been active in the Boy Scouts of America and the Boys and Girls Club of Brevard. An avid outdoors enthusiast, Mrs. Kennedy enjoys 5Ks, snorkeling, diving, camping and everything nature.
Mrs. Kennedy is a mother of two and enjoys spending time with her children.
