Vice Mayor Yvonne Minus and husband James have been married for 19 years. They have 2 children (1 deceased daughter Yolanda), 7 grandchildren, and one beautiful great-granddaughter.

Vice Mayor Minus is a 42-year resident of Melbourne who worked at a major company in south Brevard County for more than 27 years. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from Riverview High School, Vocational School and Marsh Draughon College. 

Vice Mayor Minus was elected as first black female to Melbourne City Council in 2016 and was appointed to serve as Vice Mayor in 2023. She also served as Vice Mayor November 2017 – November 2018. She was initially appointed to the City Council in January 2014 after the death of Council Member Harry Goode. She served from January 2014 until the November 2014 election.  

Yvonne Minus serves or has served in the following capacities:

• Yvonne Minus served on the Melbourne Citizens Advisory Board (CAB) for 12 years. In November 2014 she was re-appointed to the CAB where she truly enjoys working in the community and city.
• Yvonne Minus is Executive Secretary on the Brevard Homeless Coalition Board of Directors and is also a member of Continuum of Care (CoC) committee.
• Yvonne Minus is the Treasurer of the Florida Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (FBC-LEO).
• Yvonne Minus is an alternate Board member of the Brevard County Commission on Aging (BCOA).
• Yvonne Minus is an appointed committee member by Brevard County Commissioner John Tobia District 3 to the Brevard County Community Development Board.
• Yvonne Minus serves as president of the Melbourne Police Community Relations Council (MPCRC). The MPCRC meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at Carver Park Community Center on odd numbered months and at Joseph N. Davis Community Center on even-numbered months. A Community Forum is held annually in October at Joseph N. Davis Community Center for residents to meet and ask questions of law enforcement from Melbourne, Palm Bay and West Melbourne Police departments, Judicial representatives, Brevard County Sheriff, Probation Administrator, Brevard County Clerk and Code Enforcement.
• Yvonne Minus is a board member of the Space Coast League of Cities (SCLOC), and she is also is a member of the Florida League of Cities (FLC) Administrative Legislative Committee.
• Yvonne Minus is a board member of the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (SCTPO) and Central Florida Metro Planning Organization Alliance (CFMPOA). These committees review and study roads, highways and lanes on the Space Coast and Central Florida corridors for better safety and innovative ways for our future.
• Yvonne Minus is a member of The League of Women Voters of Space Coast (LWVSC).
• Yvonne Minus is a member of the National Congress of Black Women (NCBW).
• Yvonne Minus has served as president of the South Brevard County Task Force (SBCTF). This council mentors and assists at-risk youth in the community and provides free annual workshops that address bullying, crime, self-esteem and youth-development issues.
• Yvonne Minus is a 38-year member of Piper-Gardner American Legion Auxiliary 191-Melbourne and served as President for 2 different terms.
• Yvonne Minus is a Silver Life member and past secretary of the South Brevard Branch NAACP-Melbourne. She received the prestigious Presidential Award on two occasions for outstanding service to the branch and the community. Yvonne Minus is also a member of several fraternal organizations that serve the community, state of Florida and nation.
• Yvonne Minus is a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Melbourne, where Rev. Nathaniel L. Harris has been Pastor for more than 38 years. She also serves on the church personnel committee. She serves as Usher Ministry for Seniors for several years.
