The Melbourne Fire Department is committed to responding to community needs by providing for the protection of life and property through innovative emergency medical care, fire suppression and hazard mitigation services. All stations are licensed in advanced life support and are staffed by paramedics. The Code Compliance Division is responsible for public education, building inspections and fire investigations. Personnel also aid in community disaster relief.
Melbourne participates in the Brevard County Mutual Aid program, enabling us to draw on resources throughout the county when a major incident occurs or when Melbourne personnel are committed to multiple incidents. We also participate in the Statewide Emergency Response agreement.

ISO Class 1 Fire Department
Effective November 1, 2022, the Melbourne Fire Department is a designated ISO Class 1 department, placing it among placing it among the top 1% of fire departments in the nation and the top 10% of fire departments in the state of Florida. It was the first fire department in Brevard County to receive a Class 1 rating. The ISO Public Protection Classification program recognizes the efforts of communities to provide fire protection services for citizens and property owners, noting that a community’s investment in fire mitigation is a proven and reliable predicator of future fire losses. Insurance companies use these ratings to help establish premiums for fire insurance — generally offering lower premiums in communities with better protection.
