Citizens and business of Melbourne have the opportunity to abandon and vacate public land dedicated to the City for the purposes of public use per City Code Chapter 52, Article IV. This can be either city streets, alleys, special purpose easements and other non-fee interests of the city.  

Application to abandon and vacate must be submitted to the Engineering Department for review and recommendation to Council. All abandon and vacates must be approved by the City Council by a two hearing process to approve the ordinance.
