Step increases allow regular employees to advance one step within their applicable pay grade. Step increases must be funded by the City’s budget as approved by City Council.

In order to be eligible for a step increase, an employee must have completed six consecutive months of service and must not be on an extension of new hire probation. Employees who are under suspension prior to dismissal are ineligible for this pay adjustment.

Employees who are in the process of promoting to a new position when a step increase is approved by Council shall be granted one additional step in the new pay grade to offset the amount of the pay increase they would have received had the promotion been finalized prior to the approval of the step increase.

Employees who are at the top step of their pay grade prior to the processing of a step increase will be provided a lump-sum payment equal to 2.53% of their base pay when a step increase is authorized by City Council for General employees.
