The classification plans include all budgeted positions, the pay grade they are assigned, and the minimum and maximum pay for the grade. The classification plans are Exempt, Non-Exempt, LiUNA, Police, Fire and Special Pay. The positions within each classification plan are assigned to a grade with a minimum and maximum pay rate for each grade. The salary schedules include all pay steps for each grade within the classification plans.

The Human Resources Department maintains the plans. Administration includes a uniform system for evaluating a position to determine placement into the appropriate pay grade in the plan using internal relationships between existing positions based on responsibilities, education requirements, duties, span of authority and all other factors included in the position job description.

New positions approved by the City Council will be added to the appropriate classification plan. Human Resources will update existing classification plans when positions are eliminated or titles change. The salary schedules are updated when salary rates are changed by Council approval. These documents are available on the City’s employee website.
