Home Menu11.1 Employee Code of Ethics
In accordance with the City Code of Ethics found in section 3.21 of the City Charter, City employees are bound by this Code of Ethics and are expected to conduct themselves with personal integrity, honesty, fairness, respect, responsibility, integrity, trust, and sound judgment.
City employees shall adhere to the following standards in accordance with Florida Statutes Chapter 112, Part III entitled “Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees."
- No City employee shall solicit or accept anything of value to the recipient, including a gift, loan, reward, promise of future employment, favor, or service, based upon any understanding that the employee would be influenced thereby.
- No City employee acting in his or her official capacity, shall either directly or indirectly purchase, rent, or lease any realty, goods, or services for the City from any business entity of which the employee or employee’s spouse or child is an officer, partner, director, or proprietor or in which such employee or employee’s spouse or child, has a material interest. This subsection shall not be construed to prohibit contracts entered into prior to the beginning of employment with the City.
- No City employee shall accept any compensation, payment, or thing of value when the employee, with exercise of reasonable care, should know that it was given to influence an action in which the employee was expected to participate in his employee capacity.
- No City employee shall corruptly use, or attempt to use, his position or any property or resource which may be within his trust, or perform his duties to secure a special privilege, benefit, or exemption for himself or others.
- No City employee shall have or hold any employment or contractual relationship with any business entity or any agency, which is subject to the regulation of, or is doing business with, an agency of which he or she is an officer or employee.
- No City employee shall disclose or use information not available to members of the general public and gained by reason of his position for his personal gain or benefit or for the personal gain or benefit of any other person or business entity.
We expect that employees will not allow personal interests to conflict with the interests of the City, or the people we serve, nor will they misrepresent the City or use their City contacts to advance private or personal interests. The confidentiality of sensitive information about our City or operations, or that of our citizens or partners, is to be treated with discretion, and only be disseminated on a need-to-know basis or in response to a public records request consistent with Florida Statutes Chapter 119.
Violation of the Code of Ethics may result in discipline, up to and including dismissal from employment. The degree of discipline imposed may be influenced by the existence of voluntary disclosure of any ethical violation and whether or not the violator cooperated in any subsequent investigation.
